Rebuilding lives. Together.

Media Lead (Volunteer, Remote)

What is Duet?

Duet is an online philanthropic platform that enables donors to provide meaningful aid to vulnerable families in a more dignified, efficient, and personal way. Families request the exact items they need to rebuild their lives, and donors pay for those items on their behalf. We currently provide support to refugee families in Greece, and are actively expanding for COVID-19 relief in LA. As of early 2021, Duet is a 501(c)-3 registered charity!

Who is Duet?

We are a group of over 20 recent graduates and students, largely from USC and other California colleges. We have been operating since March 2019. Since then, we have facilitated over $70,000 in donations and built a donor community of over 500 members.

Duet has been featured in Viterbi News and Marshall News.

The Role

Duet is seeking a vibrant, self-motivated, and passionate media lead to lead growth on our external social media and communication.

You will be responsible for expanding Duet’s reach, messaging, and brand recognition, whilst working collaboratively with the rest of the marketing team - including the Chief Marketing Officer, the Graphic Design Intern, and Marketing Coordinator. We seek a highly-motivated individual who can step into the role with initiative, ownership, and organization and has a proven track record of creativity and sustained effort.

You will be a brand operative within Duet and will play a central role in bringing more awareness to an agile nonprofit organization that is serious about using technology for social good.

The expected time commitment is 8-12 hours per week. There is flexibility in setting hours, with the exception of bi-weekly all-team events (an all-hands meeting and a game night) and 1-2 regular meetings with the marketing team (times TBD, evenings PST).

Specific Tasks

  • Collaborate in creation, post, and follow-up with 3-4 high quality posts per week
  • Daily instagram stories (1+) (reposting other nonprofits’ content, reposting Duet content, shouting out team members/donors etc)
  • Engage with online community via commenting on posts, reaching out to potential donors, following up with known donors

  • Work with co-founders and other Duet team members to share thoughts and ideas on the platform
  • Grow a small community of like-minded followers to set the stage for future growth

  • Establish Facebook/LinkedIn strategy for establishing legitimacy and getting more eyes on Duet
  • Work on converting pre-existing and new blog content into Facebook posts
  • Collaborate with team members to produce content for LinkedIn

  • Collaborate with Duet’s Partnerships department in order to increase success and impact of campaigns on Tiltify (live streaming fundraising platform)

You will thrive in this position if you…

  • Have an interest in social good
  • Familiarity with current and emerging media platforms
  • Are excited to engage in conversations with philanthropically-minded individuals
  • Regularly keep up with social media trends
  • Enjoy crafting a brand identity
  • Have the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Thrive in a fast paced, and constantly changing environment
  • Creative thinker; someone who thinks outside the box

Why Duet?

Duet offers an opportunity to improve real lives, solve hard problems, and to make the world a smaller, friendlier place. You will spearhead the design of major brand assets while being a part of a supportive and engaged team of fellow changemakers who are determined to grow this into a sustainable long-term venture. (We are planning to start fundraising in earnest over the coming months, or as soon as we have our 501(c)(3) certification).

Assuming all goes well, there is also the possibility of extending this internship into a permanent position past Summer 2021. Join us in rebuilding lives, together.
